Housing

When attending Butte College, the majority of our international students choose to live in the city of Chico. Chico is a small city of about 100,000 people located 14 miles (22 km) from the Butte College main campus. The college provides a free bus system to all students that is accessible from Chico to the college.

Butte College offers 3 housing options listed below.

Home Stay / Home Share

The Homestay option matches students with a Chico family that has been pre-screened by a local agency; International Homestay Agency. Each home has passed the standard for cleanliness and safety. This option is great for students who seek an established home in Chico while learning local customs and culture. Basic amenities included in all homestays include a private bedroom, that will include at minimum, a bed, a nightstand, dresser or closet for clothing and supplies and a desk. Students will also have access to shared living areas of the home such as the kitchen, bathroom, laundry facilities and other shared common areas. All homes will have Internet access allowing you access to your own personal computers so you can manage your schoolwork and communicate with your families back home easily. To participate in a home-stay visit apply early! Download the application at http://internationalhomestayagency.net/

Apartment Living
This option is popular for students who are independent.  It offers the most flexibility in price and style of living. You can seek a space of your own or find roommates to share the apartment. Most students choose this option after they have established connections in the area and have made friends during their first year. Most students rent an apartment for six-months to one-year periods of time.

The Social Chico / Student Dormitory
This is popular for many first-time freshmen. The Social Chico Dorms are located in the city of Chico and buses are available to take you to the Butte College campus. Some rooms are private and others are shared with two or more students. The rooms are furnished with a bed, dresser and computer desk while some have even more options. Freshly prepared meals are served to students on location in a dining facility with many meal plans available to choose from; late night dining choices are also available for after hour snacking. There are frequent, planned social activities like movie nights and adventure outings to participate in along with a recreation room and fitness center on-site.
